Almond Basbousa with Orange flower syrup …a Arabic dessert ..very popular and delicious . Easy to make and vegetarian ofcourse ! Would highly recommmend it …its just delicious !
Almond Basbousa ….
U could do half the quantity also . This would serve about 15 people !
200 gms butter , melted or pure ghee
1 tin condensed milk
1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder
320 grams Sooji …semolina
100 gms ground Almond …or dessicated coconut for coconut basbousa
250 ml water
For the sugar syrup…
Suagr ..400 gms
375 ml water
Vanilla essence 1 tsp
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp Orange flower water or Rose syrup
2 tbsp ground almond or dessicated coconut
Almonds to garnish
Berries opt for garnish.
Prheat oven to 190 c.
Mix together melted butter , condensed milk and baking powder
Add sooji , almonds ground , and water and stir with ladel until well combined .
Pour this mixture into a greased tray and bake for 35 mts or until golden on top .
For the syrup…
Mix together sugar , water . Bring to boil, stirring only till sugar dissolves. Do not stir once the sugar dissolves .
Once it starts boiling , simmer and cook for 6-8 mts.
Remove from heat and add 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tbsp Orange flower water or Rose water.
Vanilla essence 1 tsp to be added …opt again .
Add powdered almond 2 tbsp or dessicated coconut into this sugar syrup . Keep aside to cool .
Once the Busbousa is baked , remove from oven , pour the syrup all over !
Keep it in fridge , cool it completely and cut into triangular slices , garnish with almonds and berries !
